Controller's Comments

I’ve often spotted Minchinhampton Common on the OS map, and thought it looked an interesting area. When NWO asked me if I could act as Controller for this event I was happy to help out, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent wandering around looking at the lovely views as well as the control sites!

The organisation was very efficient, and the planning was done well in advance so there were no last minute panics. Well done NWO.

Many thanks to all who came to our event on the Bank Holiday Monday - about 180 competitors on the colour-coded courses and 22 entries on the String Course. I hope you all enjoyed your afternoon on Rodborough and Minchinhampton Commons.

May I express our grateful appreciation to NGOC who kindly allowed us to use their map, and of course to Bob Teed, the mapper. Rodborough Common has been added to the original map of Minchinhampton Common, and my brief impression from when I was collecting controls was that it is a very worthwhile addition. Thanks are also due to Richard Evans of the National Trust, who was most helpful and positive in facilitating arrangements for this event.

And finally, many thanks to our Controller, Neville Baker (TVOC), for all his help, and for so readily taking on the role despite considerable distance from his home.
